Reveal, pilot#2

The Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX had a question – how to imagine a new public radio show focused on the best, most in-depth journalism happening in America & around the world?

WBEZ’s Chip Mitchell (L) and Natalie Moore (C) with Al Letson

For the second Reveal pilot, we reimagined the show around a killer investigation called Heroin LLC from NPR member station WBEZ. The investigation, led by Chip Mitchell, Natalie Moore and Rob Wildeboer, tracked the movement of narcotics from Juarez, Mexico, across the border, to Chicago and across the Midwest.

Working closely with WBEZ, we created a show exploring the themes of the investigation.

We also included follow-ups to our VA Opioid investigation from pilot #1 and CIR’s award-winning Rape in the Fields documentary.

The pilot aired on over 150 public radio stations, including 25 of the top 30 markets.
